I am selling my house in Queens NY and now live in another house. State Farm canceled and refuses to insure the house that has been put on the market for sale. Now my husband has to search for another insurance company, this has caused me emotional distress. I do not believe State Farm is acting in Good Faith, we are loyal customers with State Farm and have been for many years. State Farm Insurance states they do not and/or prefers not to insure houses that are vacant and for sale. Does State Farm have such an upperhand that they can do this type of action, there is no probable cause here. Please help

You'll have to turn to the NY Superintendent of Insurance for assistance with this. Most insurers do not take such a position -- normally a policy includes language dealing specifically with vacancy. What does the State Farm policy state?
It is possible to obtain coverage for a vacant dwelling. Contact a local agent or broker for help in locating coverage.

You should also look through your policy papers and check the exclusions. See, if any thing has been mentioned about a phase when the house goes vacant.

A standard HO policy will provide a limited amount of protection for a vacant dwelling. It is the exception that vacancy is entirely excluded.
