I have all state & i have hail/storm roof damaged of 3-tab xt25 year shingles about 6, sofit to missing from wind damage, and a $225 additional cost of contractor to put a tarb for 2 months. My deductable is 1000$ and they have estimated the cost to be 895$. I got a letter from ABC supply company that they do not carry that anymore dated 5-2-2011 sent to the adjuster but the adjuster closed my claim on 5-4-2011 without even telling me. Me & my contractor are shocked they closed it because found out after 2 weeks when adjustor didnt' call,. Claim was closed by her but she later start to work on a closed claim with me and have another contractor/roofing company come by house to back herself on closing my claim prematurely. I have my contractor who helped me understand what happened here but even I dont understand my allstate who said " we are going to take your starter row shingles to replace those missing." basicaly going to take MY extra shingles from underneath to replace MY roof. Is this legal? I have replacement cost. why are they not replacing or repairing my roof as it were before. Basically they not going to pay anything?!!! please help. I want to get this resolved my roof has been damaged for 3+ months!!! I want to get advice and/or legal help. Minnesota resident.

Please tell me you are kidding or that this is a misunderstanding. If not, you cannot run away fast enough from this adjuster. My recommendation is that you first, file a complaint with your states Dept of Insurance. You then want to submit your contractors est and tell SF that they need to issue payment for full replacement cost w/in 30days or notify you of a reason why they won't be issuing the full amount of your loss.
You may also want to speak to a supervisor and ask how it's even possible for them to think that they 1) can take your property to repair damages and 2) why they think removing shingles from another section of the home is good enough to satisfy the terms of the policy. That is about the dumbest think I've ever heard. If you have two autos insured with SF do they take the spare off the good one to replace the damaged tire on the other one?

Firstly Thank you for your care in replying and feedback.
The adjuster is from a catastrophy team and has left to another assigned location of catastrophy they said.
Is the state dept of insurance same as dept of commerce? I have All state. The did spoke to the supervisor ( as they call the claims owner- the higher up) who has now a modified answer. that they are going to take the my own extra shingles to replace it for the missing shingles and then they are going to let us get new shingles( not matching) to replace the extra shingles. Also they are going to nail the shingles on top of the extra row of shingles as its being handled & will fall apart. All this they are asking my contractor to do !! so that if anything goes wrong they can blame my contractor he didn't move things around correctly!!
I am generally a calm person but this thing is very upsetting and i feel i am left in the dark. :(

So another thing since my deductible is $1000 -$895 prior estimate. This extra row task if it cost 105$ then its still under my $100 deductible. If its few dollars over and I claim it then my insurance premiums will raise. What to do? Any further advice?

I'm not a property adjuster but have handled property claims for many years. I think you have _every_ right to deny SF touching parts of your roof that are not involved. That is, you have no obligation to supply SF with supplies to make repairs (same as if those shingles were in your shed). However, the questuion is... do they have a right to simply put new shingles in place of the damaged ones and that would settle the claim. Those shingles are not going to match. If they are allowed to do this then they would be doing you a favor by paying to move the other ones around. I can't tell you if they have a right to only put new, unmatching shingles in place of the damaged ones.

What is SF?
sorry I am a young, working student and just bought home last june, inexperienced in the home insurance events.. So i truely appreciate all feedbacks.
Since all state keeps changing their resolution & taking their sweet time since march. I will ask response in writing as u suggested, "they need to issue payment for full replacement cost w/in 30days or notify you of a reason why they won't be issuing the full amount of your loss."

They are not going to match because it be weather. even the same extra row of it. yes their motive is estimate cost fot that patchwork so to settle the claim.
