If you were hurt on the job, there will be no denial of your claim. If you were not hurt on the job, then your claim will be denied.
Either way, your short term disability policy will have an "elimination period" that must be satisfied before any claim will be paid. If your claim is a workers' compensation event, your short term policy's payment will probably be reduced by the amount of WC income you are paid, so that together with your WC payment, your disability policy will not pay more than it would pay if your claim was not WC related.
The concept is called "benefit integration". Some personal disability income policies have a "social insurance supplement" (or "substitute") rider that might pay a bit more if you are receiving WC payments.
