What will Ho6 insurance cover

Our condo was totally destroyed by a broken water pipe in the condo unit above us. Our Assn. insurance has paid for most of the repairs minus the deductible of $5000 that was required by the master policy, CAU. According to CAU no other deductible was paid out for any other repairs related to the flooding. I purchased the HO6 insurance with the understanding that its purpose was to cover the $5000 in potential damages that were not covered by the master policy. However, my insurance, Encompass, is refusing to pay anymore than $1000. Is this the way the policy works? If it is then why do I have a policy for $5000? Our association is now raising the deductible to 10000. How do I protect against a similar incident costing me $9000 next time. I am in Washington. Thanks.

It's really not possible to know what your policy would/should do as we can't read it. However, if you have a question as to why the policy paid what, why not ask the adjuster to explain this to you? You can have a copy of your policy with you and have them point out where in the policy defines how they adjusted the claim. You can also ask their policy service dept the questions you are asking here. Since they know the policy, they can furnish you the answer.
