How can I insure myself as a driver, if I do not own a car? I had a DUI recently and have met all requirements, however , recently received a letter stating my insurance certificate was not on file. ( I sold car and have of course discontinued insurance.

you may need a non driver SR22. This provides liability coverage if you rent or borrow a car. This all deoends on your state though. It is typically for 3 to 5 years

It is possible to purchase "named non owner" auto coverage that will cover you when renting or using another person's auto.

The SR-22 is an "after the fact" declaration that you now have coverage. I don't think that applies in your situation, other than the fact that you've had a "lapse" in continuous coverage that can affect future insurability at standard rates.
