My employer has paid for my health insurance but has decided to cancel the companies policy. Does the employer have to give the employees a certain amount of notice of the cancelled insurance? If so, how much time

The short answer is "yes- notice to the employee is required" if this is a group plan, and the remainder of the answer depends on the state in which the employer resides. As well, is your employer canceling the policy or simply going to make the employees pay the premium?

California is the state and the employer isn't cancelling the policy....just removing me from the policy

What is the reason you are being terminated from the coverage? Have your work hours been reduced? Have you been promoted/moved from one class of employees with insurance to another class of employees without? Or are you being singled out for some other reason?
There is more to the story than what you have posted.
