My 85 year old mother was struck by an SUV while she was in the middle of a crosswalk in the middle of the day. She sustained serious injury to her foot, requiring home nursing care to change her dressings daily and several visits to a hospital wound center to remove dead tissue.
She suffers from RA and lives alone. It has been over 7 weeks since the accident and she has been unable to resume her normal activities.
For the first 3 weeks after the accident, she was unable to keep food down and was in excruciating pain. Medication caused severe vomiting. Besides the substantial medical costs involved in her treatment, what other compensatory amounts would she be entitled to?
The operator of the SUV had insurance. The accident occurred in North Providence, RI.

Hi Pamela,
First of all, I sympathize with your mother for the suffering she has been going through. Apart from the medical costs, she can claim compensation for the pain and suffering for which she cannot lead her previous lifestyle. If required, talk to an insurance advisor to decide how much you should claim.
