How can I be sure I am receiving a multiple car discount?

All 3 of my vehicles are under separate policy numbers with the same agent. Is this typical, or should I have one policy number for all 3? None of my documents reflect a multiple car discount, only a paid in full discount. Although my agent tells me I am receiving this discount, how can I be sure, as I have not been given an amount? Thanks in advance.

You may contact the insurance company and use the customer service to find out whether or not you are really getting the multiple discount.

If all the policies have the same details, i.e name of the policy holder, address and other contact details, and are with the same insurance company, then most probably you are already getting the discounts, but it doesn't harm to make sure.

Different policies with different policy numbers???
I thought that you can get multiple car discount when several cars parked in one address are enlisted into a 'Single Policy'.
That's what I know, now are you sure all the policies are with the same insurer?
Coz you don't get multi-car discount for having policies under the same agent but being insured under the same insurance company.

Regardless of what any agent tells you, the only definitive answer will come from your insurance company. Having three vehicles and three separate policies probably does not constitute qualifying for a "multiple vehicle discount", since that normally means having more than one vehicle insured under a single policy -- that saves the insurance company money by NOT having to issue three separate policies.

You may be in a situation where your agent is deliberately padding his paycheck by not obtaining the discount for you.

So (1) call the insurance company and ask if you are receiving the multi-car discount on all three policies (I assume they are all with the same company -- the discounts that apply to your coverage should be listed on your billing statements) and (2) you may want to file a complaint about the agent with your state's Dept of Insurance. If the agent has done something wrong, you may be able to recover some or all of your "loss".

Here in Georgia, two of the largest insurers (State Farm & Farm Bureau) issue a separate policy for each vehicle insured. I just switched my parents from State Farm over to Auto-Owners and each of their vehicles was on a separate policy. They all had separate effective/renewal dates and the liability limits didn't match across all the policies either!

It's insane...

Policy number patterns vary with each company.
My current company (State Farm) issues a different policy number for each vehicle on the policy, however the first 6 digits are the same if they are on the same policy.

As for your question about the multi-car discount. When you received your policy documents, your discounts should be listed on your declarations page (usually the first page that lists your name, address, vehicles covered, effective dates, coverages, and premium). If you run into confusion while reading your declarations page, call your insurer's customer service line and they should be able to lists all of your receiving discounts.

Even if the drivers are different, my company gives multicar discounts as long as the vehicle is in the same household. However, discount rules and rates vary by company so you might also want to review the rules in order to be eligible for multicar. My previous company only offered multicar discount if all the vehicles were on the same policy whereas my current company gives the discount to those who have different policies, as long as they are in the same household.
