Hi,
I was rear ended, the the other driver's insurance accepted 100% fault. They made me give them a name of the repair shop and said they would send the check right to them. My question is can I call them tomorrow and just say that I want you to send me the check instead of the auto repair shop??? Can I do this will they likely tell me no? Is this illegal? I live in California and I own the car outright if that makes a difference. Also I want the money because I want to get my car fixed at a later date and by someone I know not by the repair shop. Will I have to explain that to the adjuster? Do I owe them a explanation? thanks in advance!

You may negotiate with them and see what they do. Since it's a third party insurance they just might agree to send the check in your name alone.
