Bike frame damage

I had damaged my bike in a road accident. I filed the claim with my insurance company and the adjuster estimated that it would cost me $4500 to repair the vehicle. The damages included a bent frame, accessories and a severed line. The book value of my bike was estimated to be around $7000. A couple of days ago the adjuster called me and told me that they think the frame is not damaged enough to qualify for repairs. As a result, they will be cutting me a check for $2500. The frame really is damaged. I could tell the moment I touched the handle bar. The alignment is all messed up. Is there any way I can convince them to cover for the frame?

Obtain confirmation that the frame is damaged. I'd recommend having a bike shop inspect it.

I’ve been going to one particular bike shop for the last 12 years and they can work miracles. I asked my insurance company if I could take my bike out of their recommended body shop and take it to the bike shop. They said that I’d have to pay some sort of fee out of my own pocket to the body shop guy before I can take my bike out of the shop. Is this right?

"Some sort of fee"... can't really know if it's right or wrong without knowing what it is for. Did you sign any paperwork with the current body shop? Find out what the fee is and if you agreed to pay it.

No, the body shop guy and the man from the insurance company came up to me with a paper and asked me to sign it. They said that they would start fixing the bike as soon as I sign. I didn’t sign it simply because the adjuster wouldn’t take a look at the frame. When I tried taking the bike out of the body shop, they said I needed to pay for the inspection and ‘clean-up’ job. There was nothing to clean up. I do most of the maintenance work myself and I know there wasn’t anything to ‘clean-up’. I don’t think I agreed to pay anything other than my premium to the insurance company.
