If an insured submits a claim for damage to their home due to a storm, and the insurance company is so busy that they have the insured submit 2 estimates and them cut the insured a check for the lesser amount and never send anyone out to even assess the damage. Can the insurance company then come back to the insured 2 months later and ask for the money back??

Can they? Sure. Anyone can ask for anything. I want a pony. See.

If you didn't get tcope's sense of humor, he meant that your insurers can ask for the money but you don't necessarily have to return it.
