My son got in an accident and rear ended a car making a right turn. I was told by a friend that as long as both myself and my husband are insured on both our cars, we don't have to add him to our car insurance. He said we are primary driver and your insuring the car not a driver. If we buy another car for him to drive, then he needs to be insured. Now I'm worried that our friend's advice may have been incorrect. I'm worried what I will find out tomorrow when I call my insurance agent to let them know about the accident.

All auto insurance policies require you to list and add EVERY driver of an insured vehicle under the policy as primary drivers (in this case you and your husband) and secondary drivers. Failing to do so will ultimately result in your claim being denied by the insurance company. If you buy another car for your son, he will need to be listed as the primary driver under the insurance policy for that car.
