License proof from Peru

I have been living in the United States for the last 15 years. I’m originally from Peru. I got my US driver’s license a couple of days back and I purchased a used Datsun. Now I had been driving in Peru for more than 12 years before I came to the US. When I apply for auto insurance would I have to mention that I have previously driven a car for 12 years in a different country? If so, would I have to produce my Peru license as proof? I’m living in Sacramento, California.

The process would be easier for you if you state that you already have 12 years of driving experience, but you'd need to produce the Peru license to support your claim. Without that, your experience is rendered redundant on paper. You would probably be quoted for a lower rate if you could produce the Peruvian equivalent of the state DMV's driving record, provided that you had a good one.
