Car accident-totaled car-driver with suspended license-

My brother was in a car accident where he was at fault. He borrowed my mother's car without her permission and his license has been suspended for over a year. The car was totaled and my brother was taken to the hospital and released without any real injuries. My mother's car is insured and my brother is listed as a part time driver when the policy was created years ago. Will the insurance cover the claim or total loss?

But was he listed at the time of the accident? If an insurance company knows a person in the household does not have a valid license they usually don't renew the policy or will sometimes excluded coverage if that person is driving. Every year the policy renews. Sometimes a new application needs to be completed. If your mother did not mention your brother was living in the household then the carrier may deny coverage.

There is really no way of known without knowing more background as mentioned above.

Want to know why carriers usually don't keep policies where someone in the household has a suspended drivers license? It's because they _will_ drive that car and their drivers license is suspended for a good reason (i.e. they will probably be in an accident).

Report the claim, see if they will pay the claim and your mother should not expect the policy to be renewed and to pay much higher premiums in the future. She also needs to buy a safe to lock the keys away.

Here in Pa...he'd be covered unless specifically excluded. Just had one that cost insurance company 70K with suspended license, no permission to operate and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Probably the same family that called and complained about their rates last renewal.
