I have come across a term called 'hybrid car'. Can anyone tell me what it is? Does the insurance for a hybrid car differ from a regular automobile? How so and why?

Same policy, different cost.

The insurance does not differ. But you'd be paying insurance for a car valued at 2.5 times that of a similarly sized plain-old-gasoline powered vehicle, so the cost will be much more for collision and comprehensive coverages.

Hybrids usual cost about $2,500 more. On a $18,000 vehicle that is not 2.5x or $45,000

You don't live in So Cal where hybrids are at a premium. The Toyota Prius goes for $40,000 if you can get one. A Corolla has the same room/capacity, and sells here for $16,000.

Hybrid cars consume less petroleum than conventional cars. There is no difference in insurance premium and services for Hybrid cars and other cars.

But for the environmental and financial aspects [link removed per TOU]. :D
