The answer to that question will vary from state to state. In Pennsylvania, for example, you cannot receive unemployment benefits if you are injured and unable to work in any capacity. Unemployment benefits are only for those workers who are “ready, willing, and able” to work. If, however, you sustain a job injury or a work-related illness, then you may qualify for workers’ compensation which provides for your medical expenses and, in the event you are unable to work, wage-loss compensation benefits until you're able to go back to work.
