Can both party claim from same insurer

I was backing when I hit a motorist who has got limited insurance coverage. Both his motorcycle and the rear end of my car got damaged. He says he's going to claim against my policy. Can I claim from my insurance too, at the same time? Will the insurer pay for both? Or should I pay for it directly and not make a claim, since the damage won't be much, I guess. Will it affect my rates too much?

The damage to his motorcycle is a property damage liability loss. The damage to your vehicle is a collision loss. Both claims will be paid, but your damage claim will be reduced by the amount of your deductible. His will be paid in full up to your policy limit.

You can do this if you'd like. Your state has accident reporting requirements that may still have to be met based on the damage amount.
