Warning about STATE FARM

I was rear-ended in my car by an ex-convict. This took place on a medium sized road in Tucker Georgia. At that time, my insurer was STATE FARM. They took my statement and the statement of the ex-con, did no other research, and found me liable for the accident. I finally had my day in court in DeKalb County Georgia. I won. My case was dismissed because the ex-con never showed up.

Be warned, I've never had this problem before and I'm certain that STATE FARM simply found it cheaper to do no research on the accident other than making 2 phone calls.

Who sued whom? If you were found at fault for the accident, why did this even go to court? Didn't State Farm pay the other party's claim?

I'm confused here. If "your case" was dismissed, you didn't win anything. If you were sued and the plaintiff failed to appear, you just don't owe him anything. Who's paying for your damages?

And what was the reason State Farm gave you in writing that determined you were at fault for a collision in which you were rear-ended? Something is not right here. Important pieces of the puzzle are missing.
