Is red diesal a type of fuel? Is it somehow damaging to you vehicle? If it is damaging, put a claim in with your carrier

Red diesel is a standard diesel fuel that has been dyed to show it was not subject to motor vehicle fuel taxes. It would not damage a vehicle that runs on diesel fuel. It would be problematic for a gasoline engine, but I don't believe it would cause any lasting damage. A gasoline fuel system would need to be flushed out.

If the OP has comprehensive (other than collision) coverage, that service would probably be covered as a "malicious mischief" loss.

The EPA requires red dye in certain "high-sulfur" fuels for off-road use (as in, farming or construction), and the IRS requires a five-times higher concentration of the dye in tax-exempt fuel, such as heating oil. When mixed with "legal" diesel, the dye will become diluted and, if discovered, can result in significant fines.

Maybe if the US weren't bankrupt it wouldn't be such a big problem.
