So far, it does not make any sense. 24 years to wait to ask whatever question you have seems to be an awfully long time, but . . . if the insurance company knew a death claim was payable that many years ago, then they probably escheated the death benefit to the state after several years, or if they were unaware all these years that a death occurred, as long as the policy was in force at the time of death, it will still have to pay the death benefit . . . with that many years of interest added.
