I recently got rear ended by a women. Because of a fear of driving, I was very hysterical and afraid because of the fact that I didn't have car inurance. She asked for my drivers license and I gave it to her but when I asked for hers she didn't give it to me. She rammed into me pretty bad but her car got the most damage, her hood was bent and the front was pretty much cracked.
Again, I was really scared I only took a picture of my car and nit of his because I really just didn't want to be there. Now, I'm sacred
that she'll eport me I'll get fined and my license suspended as well as possibly go tojail.
I'm a struggling college student. I'm living on my own paying rent and going to school full time. Without my car I'm going to have to quit and then there's no way I would be able to go to work seeing that its 40 minutes away.
I know that I was wrong to not have any insurance but she never gave me her drivers license or information about her inusurance. Which makes me believe that she didn't have insurance either. I don't know what to do because I'm extremely vulnerable at this moment. What can the other driver do if she was the one at fault?

Don't plead for sympathy here. We tell all the "struggling college students" the same thing: If you cannot afford the insurance, you should not be driving.

There are options to getting around town, and if where you work is too far to walk, then I recommend you (a) move closer to where you work or (b) work closer to where you live. That's your choice. You DO NOT NEED A CAR, but if you drive YOU NEED INSURANCE.

You and all the other scofflaws in California cause me to have to pay at least 25% more for my auto insurance that I should be paying -- in a state where it's supposed to be MANDATORY to have auto insurance. I have to carry high limits of Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Property Damage (actually, collision deductible waiver) and Uninsured/Underinsured Bodily Injury protection to avoid the risk of persons like you running into insured people like me.

You have a fear of driving? All the more reason to stop driving. You were "hysterical" because you knew you were breaking the law, which is why you probably chose also not to call the police to take an accident report.

Now, I'm sacred that she'll eport me I'll get fined and my license suspended as well as possibly go tojail.

You won't go to jail unless you are arrested for a hit-and-run offense (and even if you are arrested, they'd probably let you out after a few hours if you agree to go to court when scheduled. But you are in line to have your license suspended -- any police officer in the state can summarily confiscate your Driver License if you cannot demonstrate proof of insurance or other financial responsibility as allowed by law. And they can impound your vehicle, too.

I don't know how people who make wise decisions to go to college make bad decisions to get there by driving without insurance.
