I am presently residing in Canada and looking forward to move to Louisiana. I'm just wondering as to what insurance should I opt in order to cover my car and my house over there ?

Welcome to Louisiana my friend !
You don't need to worry at all, just get a 10/20/10 liability insurance for your car. If there exists a lien, then you might need to buy a collision and comprehensive coverage as well. This would also hold good on your home since, the company associated to the mortgage on your house might need you to maintain this for their preserving their investment.

Hey there.. I'm quite sure that you need to visit atleast a couple of companies to obtain their quotes for homeowners insurance and automobile insurance. By going for both these forms of insurance with any one company you might be able to achieve a lower rate.

And also one thing personally from my side-- If you're shifting to Louisiana its better that you also opt for one flood insurance policy separately.

Jason

oops ! its amazing ! by choosing a 10/20/10 Liability coverage you'd be covered by upto $10,000 for any physical harm caused to a person, by upto $20,000 for more than one person and by upto $10,000 for any damaged property. And also I'd like you to buy a Health policy in case your employer fails to provide you with a healthcare plan to counter the mounting healthcare expenses in Louisiana ! thanks buddy.
