Autoinsurance renewal

Last Friday, Eric and I were installing a suspension component in my car. Once we were done with the thing, we took it for a spin. While Eric was driving, he lost control of it and butchered a mailbox. Police showed up in the place and he received a reckless driving ticket.

Saturday morning I called my insurance provider and the lady on the other side automatically opened a claim for me telling me that it is as per law until she is speaking to the homeowner and the driver. So the homeowner and Eric spoke to her and Eric settled to pay for the mailbox. Everything was fine as Eric paid the homeowner and the claim was closed. However, under the claim details, it says that, they were notified about the claim for report purposes only. No one filed for damage through policy and no payments were made.

I’m wondering if the rates will go up for this. They said they can’t say anything until the renewal date comes.

I'm sorry but the answer is YES!

However, in few states, it would be classified as a not-at-fault accident and therefore, perhaps there would be no impact on your rates.

Check with your state law.

That is correct. I'm not sure why you are worried. Rates are based on claims and expenses. They won't know what those are until the time when the policy comes up for renewal.
