Truck damaged as the right front wheel came off

Yesterday, while I was driving and went around a corner, the right front wheel of the truck came off and caused substantial damage to the front fender. I’ve comprehensive coverage but no collision. I didn’t file a claim as the adjuster (a friend of mine) of the carrier told me that the incident would fall under collision coverage as the damage was caused because collision with the wheel. I too feel that he is right but still want to know if anyone went through any such incident in the past. Thanks.

Look at it this way... comprehensive coverage addresses about 7 named perils. What you mentioned is not one of those perils. Yes, it's collision.

Your friend is correct, this would be a collision loss and not a comprehensive loss. However, you could still file a claim and wait for the consequences. But this claim might be futile and would be added in your records.

It would depend on why the wheel came off.

It actually depends on the wording of the policy. I saw the wording on a Texas policy that stated that " Comprehensive was anything other than collision. So you might give it a try!! Best of luck! :)

So even in this case it would still be collision.... as it's a collision.
