Why do I have to pay for SDI?

I am 77 years old and had a knee replacement recently. However, I didn't get any state disability insurance benefits as they said that I couldn’t collect SDI after 65. I paid all the bills out of my paychecks. So why do I have to pay if I don’t get it when I need the most?

Are you still employed? If so, your employer may opt you out.

That's because, under federal law, there are no disabled people in America after age 65, only retired persons.
