My 2006 Toyota Tundra 4x4 crew cab was damaged by large hail in April 2013. I had an insurance adjuster look at it and appraise the damage. They issued me a check for the repairs; however because there were so many vehicles damaged during the hailstorm, I decided to wait a few months to have my truck repaired. I had not cashed the check the insurance co. Had issued.
I put my truck in the shop last week and received a call today from the adjuster saying they were going to total my truck because underlying damage had been found. I do not wish to have it totaled, but was told I had no choice in the matter.
In looking at many websites, I can't find a 4x4 in that model with the low mileage and fiberglass camper shell (included on insurance) that my truck has. There was only a $1200.00 difference that caused it to be totaled, and I offered to pay that.
The only thing wrong with my truck is hail damage-nothing mechanical.
Any suggestions from anyone?

You can arrange with the insurance company to keep the vehicle as a salvage. They will deduct the salvage value from the claim they are willing to pay for the total loss. You use that money to effect the necessary repairs -- which may or may not be enough. So before you choose to do that, check with the repair shop and ask for their opinion as to whether making repairs can be done within the amount you can expect to receive from the insurance company, and whether they believe the repairs can put you back to where you were before the hail storm.
As far as negotiating the actual cash value (replacement cost minus depreciation) and the salvage cost, you may have to broaden the search for a comparison to your vehicle and its accessories.
