I am a Canadian truck driver with north American indian status applying for a job with the us firm Admiral Merchants. I am having a hard time getting an ein number. Are there any outside agencies that can help me obtain one? The IRS is not helpful and keep telling me different stories

The only place to obtain an EIN is the IRS. You can apply online here: https://irs-ein-number.com/?gclid=CMCX5cuhzrsCFU5gfgodLgYAPA

Unless you are ineligible because you are not an employer, you should be able to do this yourself at the website above.

But an EIN is only for businesses that expect to hire employees. If that is not who you are, then you probably need an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) instead. You can search the www.irs.gov website for information about ITINs.

You cannot have an ITIN if you are eligible for a US Social Security Number.
So if what you need is an ITIN, then you need to fill out and submit a Form W-7 along with requested documentation. You can obtain the Form W-7 here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf
