Right now I am paying $2,399 for 2 cars. They said it is high because my 19 year old daughter is added as a occasional driver. My spouse and me both have a clean record and we are driving a 2009 Chevy Traverse and the other car is a 2010 Cobalt.

You can either have the best policy or the least expensive one. You cannot have both at the same time.

You cannot determine this in a single sentence or by the way you are trying to do. The nature and affordability is something that varies from individual to individual. It's you who need to determine the best and affordable policy for you keeping you after making sure your requirements are getting fulfilled.

Again, your rates are determined on the basis of your age, car model, driving history, past tickets, claims and many more.

In my opinion, both USAA and State Farm usually rate high and more consistently so. Still, ratings such as these often differ and get altered every now and then.

Regardless of the insurer, I would try to locate the expensive part of the insurance like collision, liability, uninsured motorist, comprehensive, medical, etc. All these must be analyzed and provided to you for each of your car. Its quite likely that your liability coverage is costing you a lot more as compared to others - simply on the assumption that teens are more vulnerable to road mishaps than adults.

More so, because liability coverage provides compensation to other cars and also pays the driver’s medical bills. So, here you need to find out the amount you’re paying for that coverage. That may have been decided on the basis of per accident, per person injured, etc.

Now the questions arises, will you be able to put your daughter on just one car? Are your cars predominantly expensive to get insured - costly to get repair works done, have a high record of claim rate, and so on? For this you may have to ask and there, you might even get surprised by the answer you receive.

Find out if you’re eligible for a mileage cut off. There are some insurers who’ll oblige with a rate cut, if your car’s mileage doesn’t surpass a particular limit each year. You’ll have to take your area of residence into consideration for that matter. Moreover, comprehensive coverage would cover you for damages caused due to vandalism, acts of God, etc. This is, however, something that is regularly influenced by your area of residence’s zip code.
