TOTALING a rare car that has future value

I own a 2000 ford contour SVT this is a limited production car no. 387 out of 2150. It was rear ended and this action pushed it into the car in front of me.The rear bumper and front bumper are trashed. I took the car for an estimate and the person insurance co. that hit me did the repair estimate. They made up so much damage to the car that it was "totaled" including the exhaust system was damaged and needed replacing. (when they took the bumpers off to inspect for damage they had to remove the exhaust supporting bracket) Im appalled because i feel that they made up all these thing wrong with the car to get out of fixing it. (you cannot get OEM or aftermarket replacement bumpers for this model car) and a salvage title would ruin the future value of the car. what can I do? the insurance company told me that I have to take the total loss or drop the claim. any pointers? Also I am a auto mechanic by trade. thanks for any help
