LTD has now been approved and they are requesting the SSDI award letter to offset. What will they offset if the person hasn't received any payments prior to or during applying for SSDI?

Many LTD policies have a "benefit integration" provision that allows the insurer to reduce the LTD benefit by up to 100% of the amount of a person's SSDI benefit. Read your policy to see what it says.
You may have a policy which includes a Social Insurance Supplement rider which would have paid a benefit while you were waiting for SSDI to start. The insurance company might owe you money.
