I live in Texas. I've always been insured with State Farm. I bought a new truck roughly a year ago & I have the payments auto draft every month. I randomly decided to look at the break down of my payments & I noticed that I have been charged insurance from the lien holder the entire time I've owned the vehicle. I called them & informed them I am in fact insured & they told me that state farm only sent them a packet for the first month & never sent them an insurance card showing my coverage date range. So they charged me for whatever insurance they got.
I don't understand how this is legal. They can just charge me for insurance without notifying me or state farm? They never even sent me an insurance card. When I complained & asked for my $$$ back they told me it's my responsibility to make sure they have all the information they need & not theirs. I spoke with state farm & they are under the impression that the lien holder has to make an honest attempt to contact me & or state farm. Does this not fall under deceptive business practice. I dug through all my paperwork, there's nothing there that says or even implies that they can just charge me without notifying. On top of all of this I just received hail damage. Should I file on their insurance or my policy with state farm as the damage occurred while I had an active policy with both.
This is all stressful & very annoying.

My guess is that SF does send you a bill, either paper or electronic. You may want to speak to your local agent about this.
You are asking a legal question in an insurance forum.
