Going from Cash Pay to insured.
At the beginning of 2019 I am switching from cash pay to buying health insurance via the Obamacare marketplace. The area I live in has only 1 health insurance company to pick from in the marketplace, BCBS.
As a cash pay patient I was able to pick and choose my PCP and specialists, hospitals, and clinics. Luckily, all of them accept BCBS so they are 'in the network'. The plan is an HMO with the PCP directing treatment.
My PCP made referrals to all the specialists, hospitals, and clinics even though I was cash pay, but there is nothing about them when I log into my account on BCBS. How do I fix this? I was thinking about setting up a consultation visit with my PCP and direct him to make new referrals to the specialists, hospitals, and clinics so everything is documented. I doubt he will have a problem doing this.
I was diagnosed with cancer so I have a relatively large team of specialists, clinics, and hospitals I will be relying on for the next 2-3 years.
Thanks!

Hi,
You probably will have to put in new requests to BCBS. They'll see that the providers are in network and will likely approve it very quickly. However, most times they will not be able to see your old referrals unfortunately. Their system just isn't build to go back and look for them. Hopefully it's not too much of a problem for your PCP referral manager.
Hope that helps!
