At the time of renewal of the car insurance policy, the insurance companies do verify the driving record, whether there is any ticketing or other disputes or fines. This entails how good you are as a driver and accordingly they fix the level of premiums. I personally think that most car insurance companies check the driving record for all of the years. This provides them a view whether you got changed your driving pattern after an accident or like that (if there is any). A throughout good driving record will give you an advantage to bargain or shop around for the cost of insurance.
Hope this will help you :)
