SK, the insurance company is to compensate you for the loss that you have suffered. The term replacement cost in the policy paper doesn't mean that the entire carpet would be replaced in case of a damage. The insurance rather would replace the portion that was stained.

Fight what? Why is this not acceptable?

can you insure just the carpets? as we are moving into a flat (renting) and the landlord has put down all new carpets, he would like them to be insured by us. none of our stuff is worth anything so what company would insure just the carpets/

That is why you pay rent... part of it addresses normal wear and tear. No you cannot insure them as you don't own the property.

Hi,
I live in New Mexico and we got some water damage on our carpeting that is insured. The carpet was continuous throughout the house (looked that way anyway; of course there are seams) but only part was damaged. My question is how closely is the new carpet required to match? Dyes change over time so that a new match to an old color will not necessarily match after a year or so and beyond, and I don't want there to be a noticeable change in color. I don't want them to replace the whole carpet throughout the house, but can they just leave a seam in or between rooms, or in a doorway, or what?
Thank you for your help.

In UK we have had really bad sreivce (twice) by using the insurers recommended body shops. In fact, one of them tried to seriously rip us off. Also, we had v poor sreivce on 2 occassions using the insurers recommended law firms. Never again! Best get your own people. It's your car and you have the right to get the job done to your satisfaction. Insurance industry is commercial theft, they are happy to take your premiums but try to avoid paying out.
