Hi McCurtny, yes health insurance is available for the self employed individuals. But they can't obtain the coverage under the employee's group health insurance plans like the others. Therefore, you have to look for individual health insurance plans. These are often more expensive than group health plans but at the same time offers more flexibility. With the individual health plans, you have more options to choose from and can actually buy the policy that will meet your needs.

Additionally, if you are a small employer, you can also purchase the small group health plan that will cater to the medical care requirements of your employees. The state laws have the provision which ensures that individual insurance providers can't deny selling the fully insured small group health plan to you on the basis of the employee health related infos.

Hope this information will be of some help. Take care

Hi! You can purchase individual health plan, alright, but group coverages are also available through different trade groups and Chamber of Commerce. You can check out this option too. These are cheaper than the individual health plans. But whatever be your choice, make sure that you are receiving the benefits you were looking for.

My friend, knowing your profession I'll suggest that along with health plan you should consider adding the disability insurance to your portfolio. Because, according to the latest researches, 3 out of every 10 Americans are exposed to the possibilities of becoming disable during his/her employment period. Therefore, not only the rising costs of health care but costs insured during the disability period should also be your concern.

You can purchase individual disability insurance from any individual disability insurance provider. However, you need to satisfy their medical underwriting guidelines before getting qualified for the policy. You may also have to wait through the pre-existing condition exclusion period before the policy benefits resumes.

Fatman
