UK is different from us.

here in the UK it is a bit different it is illegal to have a car on the road - even just parked on the road without insurance! Things have been and still are very tight financially but the only way I would leave my car uninsured is if I had it parked up off road and wouldn't drive it - it is just too risky! I can understand what you mean but I think the legalities of driving and car insurance etc are totally different between here in the UK and there in the US.
In the U.S. we can have a car parked on the street without insurance, but if we are in a wreck and we didn't have insurance, we could be thrown in jail if that person was hurt. I don't want to test the theory! LOL
If I couldnt get money to cover the car insurance for the year (might have to ask family) then I will do away with that. I would rather have food in my cupboards than pay for car insurance. I may not even drive the car or might have to look into selling it. Lots of factors would have to come into play but because I don't mind using public transport, I think the car will just have to go. Not sure my hubby would like that though.

I think it should be that way everywhere, if your not properly covered by insurance, then get off the road. You can walk to the Geico office for insurance if you have to.

I don't agree with it being parked in the street, in a driveway? Yes. Driveways aren't that expensive if you can get some cement and bricks on sale. Not to mention that it adds some nice value to your home.

If a person had to have insurance on every vehicle that they owned and did not have licensed to be on the road, it would get expensive to own more than one. I have two that I operate depending on weather and what I am doing and it cost me alot to keep both vehicles financially insured, inspected, plates and other upkeep to ensure that it is legal and safe anytime that I need to jump in it and go.

I worry more about the other drivers on the road that drive without insurance, kind of screws those of us who follow the laws and purchase the insurance required or above and beyond the least amount needed. I do think those who don't have the insurance need some type of sanction on their license and should not be able to drive without the insurance, they put everyone at risk, financially when they choose to drive without insurance, drives me nuts, especially in the winter time, chances are if they don't have insurance, thier tires and car condition is not real good either, putting them at further risk of having an accident, sad, but true.

I agree dreamer, you want to make sure that you are covered and if this is what you feel you need to be fully covered than good for you. Some people get the bare minimum required by law because of the cost or their record, those people always scare the crap out of me too and I am hoping never to be in an accident period, never the less with someone who is in this situation.

Like you I carry some pretty hefty insurance, want to make sure that everything is covered, my husband and I both have really clean driving records, so our rates are really descent. I don't think it is by luck, I think it is making the right decisions like choosing not to drink and drive, not to talk on a phone, etc, etc the list can go on and on. You get behind the wheel to drive, some people you would swear they are sitting on their living room couch watching television, not driving a ton of metal down the road. Any way, got you, and I agree you have to cover yourself.

I carry the same with my household insurance, The only insurance that I am really lacking in is health insurance for myself, which scares me, I have four children, being on the lower income scale, they are covered under a state welfare program for some of the cost, I still pay but not as much as if I was out there on my own doing it and with kids it is a must to have descent health insurance.

I agree with you good that alot of people are too preoccupied while driving, a lot of states ban cell phone use unless you are using a hands free device, I still think that your mind is not set on the driving, it is in the conversation you are having, especially if it is a heated one. I tell you what can irritate me, this one may yank a few chains, but I see people with their pets up around their shoulders or practically in their face while they are driving, this happens alot with older drivers. If fido can stay away from the windshield and stay in the back seat, maybe you should leave fido at home. Cute as he is, he is going to cause an accident. I want to roll down my window and say, "Two Words, Pet Carrier"
