Good morning Glenda, welcome to the community, and I'm so sorry about the loss of your father.
HIS WIFE IS NOT BE COOPERATIVE
What do you mean by this? She won't tell you if he was insured? Would/is she not the beneficiary on his policies and also responsible for all of his funeral expenses etc.?
We've had a few other posts regarding this issue, (I'll try and find them and link them here as well), there is really no way that any of us know (if I'm remembering correctly)of to check on this this soon after his demise, there were suggestions on 'unclaimed' life policies, but that doesn't appear to be the case here.
If you are familar at all with your father's affairs, meaning who he might've had insurance with (auto/home etc) you might contact those agents to see if he too had a life policy, but honestly doubt they will be able to provide you that information with the privacy acts that are now in place. And (correct me if I'm wrong community), but his wife is considered 'next of kin', not his children. I believe a living spouse comes first...sorry......One other way (if you can get them to tell you), is the funeral home. Any time I've had to make arrangements they have always asked this question, 'is there life insurance if so who with and how much'. Again, though the privacy acts may prohibit the funeral home from sharing this information with you.
Let me see what else I can find in the way of other posts........

I am not very sure, but I think if your father had a life policy and had named you as the beneficiary, then the insurance company will contact you for it. Otherwise, you can search through his personal documents, if you posses them.
One of my friends was in the same situation. His mother died without telling him anything about her insurance policies. He luckily came across the policy papers while shuffling through his mother's documents. This may work in your case too.
Lastly, I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. :( Cynthia

Welcome to the Community :D Lori is correct in saying the spouse comes in line first when the other spouse dies, at least in my state.
I had an "uncooperative" step-grandfather to deal with when my grandmother died. It left us in a world of hurt. The insurance company contacted us because she had named us in an old policy, before she married him, so we didn"t have to worry about that. However, we knew she probably had others, so I went to the funeral home and asked them if the insurance was taking care of her burial-didn't really know if she had any or not-just took a chance.
They told me yes, and I asked if it was xxx-just made up a name- and they said no it was xxx.Kinda sneaky,I know, but he was already threatening to change the will-which he did!
I would try again with his wife- if that doesn't work, maybe someone else from your family can speak with her..
Good Luck--keep us posted..KAren

Hello Glenda, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I wish I had stumbled across this website earlier or you had come to my website. I've investigated a rather large number of cases like yours and work very closely with a site called www.mib.com. If they cannot find the answer for you, you might consider messaging me or another investigator you find on the web or in the phone book.
Good luck

I am sorry to hear that his wife is not working with you. I am from
south haven and I do know that she is a diffcult person to work with. The vice pres. of the naacp went to ask for the papers from ouir chapter and she told her that she threw everything away. and the next week after they laid him to rest she had a yard sale selling all his stuff like she was glad that he was gone. I hope you get what answers that you need. And I pray that all Jerome kids gets what they deserve. We really miss Jerome!!! I am working hard to continue his cause that he wanted for our people.
