I have Liver Cancer and need Debt Insurance

I just found out that I have liver cancer. Like most of us I have debts and a mortgage (total of both $75 K) that will need to be paid. I currently only have $10K in insurance and that won't be enough. Is there any chance for me to get the extra protection I need in order to safeguard my wife from becoming a homeless person? Please reply, I am desperate!

Hi Harold,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your health condition. I have had dealings with people in situations similar to yours and there just aren't many choices in buying insurance.

Some companies offer "Guaranteed Issue" life insurance. One company off the top of my head is Occidental Life Insurance Company. Their toll free number is 1-800-736-7311. You will be limited in the amount of insurance you can buy and the premium will be quite high. You may be able to purchase $15,000 for anywhere from $80 - $110 per month. These policies are designed for those who cannot qualify for standard insurance.
The policy benefit will be limited in the first two years.

There are some other things you need to check on:

(1)Does your health condition result in your disabiliity to work?
If so, your current life insurance policy may have a benefit known as "Premium Waiver". Most policies state that after a certain period of disability (normally 6 months), all preiums will be waived. This would free-up some money to pay for the additional life insurance.

(2)Did you purchase any type of insurance with your mortgage?
Oftentimes, mortgage companies will offer "credit life" or "credit disability" at the time of closing. This could free-up additional monies.

(3)Have you ever purchased any type of "Catastrophic Disease" or "Cancer" insurance? If so, there will be benefits payable in this type of policy, as well.

Hope some of this has helped.

Goodmorning Harold, I too am sorry to hear about your liver condition, are you on a transplant list? Is anyone a possible match for part of a liver, I thought I seen a documentary where you can be donated just part of a liver and it will grow and regenerate on its own. I hope something like this is a possibility for you. You are in my thoughts. I see that you have gotten some pretty good leads here for the insurance question that you ask, so if I were you I would pursue them.
