A good friend of mine is due to deliver her first baby next month (feb 21) As she is still a student in college, she is covered under her mothers insurance plan. However, the policy that her mom has does not cover delivery costs.
Therefore, begin that we live in Wisconsin- is there any other options available for her now- in order to prevent inquiring any delivery costs? She is single, 21, and a college student. If she was to pick up a supplemental plan- would it begin covering her before her due date?
Or, if she applied for a state insurance program (such as Badgercare, medicaid, etc) would that cover her delivery costs?

it may but it is going to depend on her income if she qualifies or not, or at least that is the way it works in our state. She may want to call them and see or try to visit a webpage, they all have webpages these days.

Hello and welcome...
She won't be able to find any private policy that would cover this delivery...I'm sure of that...but.......
Or, if she applied for a state insurance program (such as Badgercare, medicaid, etc) would that cover her delivery costs
She needs to contact her state agency YESTERDAY....medicaid (dependent upon her finances) will more than likely step in and cover her and the baby for a period of time....please contact the DFS NOW! and see what she needs to do BEFORE this baby comes!ps..where is daddy? any help there?

Hi megan, it would be difficult for your friend to find a health care plan to cover her needs. Insurers may consider pregnancy as a pre-existing condition and may deny to cover her during the period.
Apart from the Medicare program, she may also seek coverage under the other state funded plans, like- the WIC and the TANF (temporary assistance for needy families). These plans are directed to meet the health related requirements of the women, infants and children.
You may need to find more about these programs in your state and also their qualifying criteria.

Hi! I think we need a bit more info to properly inform you of potential coverage for the maternity expenses of the mother.
For example, in just about every state, there are mandated coverages that must be included in certain types of policies, so this depends on what type of policy is actually in-force.
Not a bad idea to check out the following link to the Wisconsin Department of Insurance: http://oci.wi.gov/pub_list/pi-019.pdf
This deals only with group insurance, and does not deal with individual insurance policies.

Are there clinics there? I was in that situation once . I was put on medicaid till 6 weeks after the baby was born.I would say since she is a colledge student I would say she probly qualifies. She needs to check that out with medicaid.
