Exhusband on HEALTH insurance

Without going into the reasons or drama-filled back story, my ex husband and I once again live together with our 2 children. Can I put him on my medical insurance plan as my husband and just leave out the whole we aren't married anymore part? If something happens, would this prevent a claim being paid?

You should call your carrier and ask them, I don't think you could do this, but I could be wrong, I think that you have to show that they are your dependent, I guess he would be right? This one is tricky. What company is it? Do they have a website? Maybe on the website there are frequently asked questions. If you let us know the company I will see what I can find out for you. :)

What are the added benefits you are enjoying by keeping him in your policy? Is it cheaper for you? Who is the primary beneficiary of the policy? I guess, you need to mull over a wide range of 'ifs-n-buts' before making the decision.

Hi ex-married, I'm afraid that it is not allowed to keep the divorced partner under the health plan. Normally the health benefits get terminated after a divorce as the definition of family member is no longer valid for that person. He/she, therefore, can't take the advantages of the family health coverage. Now if you two are separated and hadn't filed the divorce case yet, then you may continue keeping him covered under your policy. Many couples obtain this route to continue with their health plan by entering into the separation agreement.

However, enquiring with your carrier is a good option. Cheers!

NO!!!!!!!!!!!

YES! it definately could...I'm assuming this is a group policy at work? Alot of companies now are very forward thinking the company I work for even allows ''domestic partners'' etc....Check you policy and see call the benefits coordinator...there may be other circumstances that you can get him covered, but what ever you do DO NOT LIE ON THE APPLICATION....it's not like it won't be reallllllllllly easy for anyone to find out you are not legally married...health carriers are on to this...just three months ago, after being on my husbands health coverage for about 28 years, and married 30 we got a 'random' audit, i had to send them a copy of our marriage license! Yep couldn't find it (turned out it was in my grandma's safety deposit box since the day after we were married), had to go to the recorders office and buy a certified copy...I'm sure once they got that they ran a check to make sure we are still legally married...
