Looking for commercial insurance for bus export business

by Cortezj70 » Sun Feb 10, 2008 01:17 am

Need insurance that will cover buses from the time of purchase until I put them on a ship.. I called lots of places and cannot find anyone with this coverage. This is a very common business with 1000's of units being exported every year. I'm guessing most people are just taking a chance and not getting insurance because I doubt anyone has looked as hard as I have.

I'm not an agent but any agent that writes commercial policies should be able to take care of this. As mentioned above, I'm not an agent but I think probably an Inland Marine policy if the buses won't be driven and an auto policy if they will. Both are very common policies.

You won't believe how hard I've looked for a policy. Most of the agents/brokers that I called answer in the same manner "They don't do it, but they feel that someone already does"

Any agents/brokers here that can provide this coverage... Its a big business !!!

thanks

Have you contacted some of the bigger auto carriers? State farm, Progressive, Allstate?

Yes, I've contacted all major carriers and they all seem befuddled by my request. I'd Appreciate any leads ???

What city and state do you live in?

If the buses are going to be driven to the shipping area they will need to be taged and have auto insurance. If they are going to be transported I think an Inland Marine policy will be needed. A commercial agent should be able to handle this for you without any problems.

The bus will be driven from different dealers around Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania to my home city (Fairfax, Virginia) to await shipping. When the shipping time arrives, It will be driven from Fairfax, Virginia to Baltimore, Maryland.

I hope this additional information can generate a good lead. Thanks

I can PM you the name of an agent in Fairfax that would be able to give you some information about policies that would address this. But if I'm correct, you will need to have a Business Auto Policy to cover the vehicles while they are driven (no choice about this). PM me and let me know if you would like this information.
