My 16 yr old Granddaughter borrowed my car to run an errand

My 16 yr old Granddaughter borrowed my car to run an errand for me and got into an accident. Since she does not have auto insurance in her name Geico Ins automatically put her on my insurance policy without my permission and sent me a new bill in the mail. That is how I found out she was added. She does not live in my home nor do I want her on there. They are telling me if I dont pay the new bill they will cancel me. Can they do that?

If she often drives your car, then it would be wise to put her under the policy, though I doubt that the insurer can include her on your policy without your consent, especially when she isn't even living in the same household.

If you don't want her in your policy, then call-up GEICO and let them know that you want to put her under the exclusion list, but it'll also imply that they may deny the claims in future if she gets into an accident with your car.

Hi viadol3,

You posted the same query twice. :) Tcope has got something to say over at the other thread,

I RESPECTFULLY ask this question. If you don't want your granddaughter there, then how can you trust her with your car? I'm not trying to be noisy, I'm just 'thinking outloud.'

Survivor in the Midst has a good suggestion - tell your insurer to exclude her from your policy. They can still list her but she won't be counted against your premium. If you let her drive you have no coverage when she is behind the wheel. If they do not comply, seek insurance elsewhere. This was an accident by someone who does not live in your household. You can probably find good coverage elsewhere if needed.
