My insurance company issued a two party check to cover roof

My insurance company issued a two party check to cover roof repairs due to hail. What's going on. I pay the premiums, I pay the mortgage. Nothing is in arrears. What does the mortgage company have to do with it?

They own the house until you pay it off. So they have a vested interesting in making sure their home/collateral is kept in good condition. This is setting aside the fact that the insurance company also has a legal obligation to protect the mortgage companies interest in the home.
