I don't want the insurance company to find out about my driving record if I buy another car, because I have a bunch of traffic violations. The thing is, they haven't found out any of this yet and I continue paying my premiums as normal.

I got a speeding ticket..the judge knocked it down to something lesser...and he informed me if I didn' tell my insurance company and was in no accidents or anything with in a year time frame it would go off my record and the insurance company would never know. If you have a few they may take longer so it may be a bigger risk. I am not sure if when you add a vehicle they look into your record more, so someone will come along and answer that for you.

gueroxi, I don't want to grow old and cranky, but too late! sorry just HAD to say that....

Here's the deal though, if you go to another carrier, to buy a another car, the chances of them running a CLUE or DMV search is greater, you have thus far avoided a 'random' search...and you are lucky...never ever lie on an application, because if you have a claim, material mis-rep could come into play...which will cause your policy to be voided, and zero payment on the claim...so if you want to buy a new car, then by all means buy one, if you have to complete a new app...don't lie...if you get caught, well you got caught....and after all it was YOUR doing right?Posted: Sun Jan 18, 2009 05:15 pm Post Subject:
If a policy is already in place and you get pulled over as I did (school sign in an area I was unfamiliar with was hidden behind overgrown trees) could I have gotten in trouble for not reporting it? The judge more or less said not to call attention to it and it would go away in a year. What if they would have ran a "random check"?

No, nothing says you have to report these things...just if you fill out an application for insurance and the question is ASKED then you must truthfully answer...The judge more or less said not to call attention to it and it would go away in a year. What if they would have ran a "random check"?
And the judge was correct (duh Lori that's why he's the judge  ) if they do a random check and there is a 'chargeable' (rate increase) violation, then they would just increase your rates at renewal, and likely would have an explaination, re: why you have this rate increase.Posted: Sun Jan 18, 2009 08:42 pm Post Subject: insurance
Each time I got Insurance for my vehicles ( Chevy Barretta THEN. Now I have a Jeep Cherokee), my Insurance company ran my driving record both times.

I am not even sure now what the judge charged me with. Its been quite a while and the fine was a little over $100. Glad to see I didn't get the random check. Since it was off my record in a year would the insurance rates have went down when it fell off?

Here's a question to think about. There are SOOO many Insurance Companies 'out there'. If someone goes to DIFFERENT companies and asks for the same 'coverage', at ALL 3 of them, why would you get 3 different quotes? IE: I have Nationwide as my 'agent', for my car Insurance. I went to 2 OTHER Insurance companies, asking about the same coverage. ONE Insurance company quoted me a price that was about $40.00 higher (Allstate Insurance) than what I am paying now. The OTHER one quoted me a price that was almost $80.00 higher (Progressive Insurance) than what I'm paying now. I asked for 'Liability' with ALL 3 companies. How do Insurance companies actually do their 'research' for their quotes? My driving record never changed when I applied for ALL 3 of them.

not necessarily all states/carriers are different re: how long 'incidents' affect your rates..why would you get 3 different quotes?
I asked for 'Liability' with ALL 3 companies.
Ahhh but did you ask for the EXACT same limits you have with nationwide? That could be one problem..other one might be that you have been with nationwide, and claims free long enough to get a 'safe driver discount' . Also all company structures re: ratings are a little different...but if you said, 'liability' and did not SPECIFY the limits that could the answer right there...what are the liability limits you carry now? What EXACT coverages and limits do you have (now) with Nationwide?Add your comment
