Glass coverage isn't as complicated as most think. It really depends on the insuring company and also how the policy is witten. For example, a very well known company I worked for insured a lot of wealthy persons. Auto glass chips are usually repaired at no charge (up to two repairs). If the insured had "prestige coverage," the replacement of the windshield is covered (no deductible). If you have comp but not a prestige customer, you pay the comp deductible and the glass is replaced under your auto policy.

Many carriers also will waive a comp deductible if the windshield can be repaired rather than replaced.

I didn't know that part. We have always had to have oyrs completely replaced..never able to be repaired. I really think that is nice that they would consider waiving the deduct.

I will have to check and see. If it saves a few dollars it would be good but my only problem is my husbands track record for hitting bambi. I swear he gets at least 1 a year.

just check the difference say for 50-100, and check your collision deductible see if it's worth it

Okay.. I have to call them tomorrow anyway. Ever since I moved I haven't gotteb written statements in the mail (keep requesting them) so I need to know since my policy renewed and their was a claim on it (brother truck vs husbands tractor) what the payment is. Thanks

Lori gave great advise about checking you deductible before reporting your glass claim. If you have an expensive car, you may want to report it if your deductible is $500 or less. Some vey expensive cars have rain sensors and color tint and can be costly; however, some windshields can be anywhere from $200 - $700 and you may only have a $500 deductible. Call a glass shop in your area first and ask how much it would cost to replace the glass. Then call your insurance company to see what your deductible is. As far as repairs go, if the crack is in the view of the driver, it has to be replaced regardless of the size of the crack. If it's not in the driver's view and it's less than the size of a quarter, it can be repaired. I hope this helps.

This was always the case, but in my area anyway not anymore...just found this out myself about two months ago..they can repair them right smack in the middle of the drivers site plain now..but they can't be over a certain size...also the tech. has gotten so good, the size of the damage that can be plugged is even bigger...largest glass company (i know anyway) says if it's the size of a PAPER dollar bill or less they can repair it...amazing..Posted: Fri Oct 10, 2008 05:25 pm Post Subject:
Wow. The size of a dollar bill is pretty big crack in my book but thats amazing. I wouldn't mind seeing something like this done.
