I totaled my 2007 Impala last year and my insurance company paid it off with the loan company. At the time, the insurance company said I would receive paperwork showing that when I bought a new car, I would not have to pay sales tax on the amount that my Impala was worth (or $17,xxx). I never received that paperwork.
I decided it's time to buy a new car and started getting my ducks in a row. Once I realized I didn't have the above paperwork, I called the insurance company (who dropped my coverage by the way) and they said very clearly that THEY NEVER SENT THE PAPERWORK regarding the sales tax credit. She offered to send it out and said that I should take it to the DMV and get a refund of taxes I have already paid on the vehicle I purchased within 180 days of totaling the Impala.
Since I didn't receive the paperwork, I didn't realize there was a 180 day limit!!!!!! Anything I can do about this?

Are you saying that you did indeed purchase a vehicle within the first 180 days, or are you now looking to purchase a new vehicle?

Hi mswatson27
Di you make a full payment yet? If not then you may ask the company to arrange the tax deductions in the rest of the payment.

Did I make the full payment on the new car yet? Not sure I completely understand your question, and I really want to. :) This whole ordeal is way over my head, and it's starting to frustrate me!!!

You should be fine, have you received the 'new' sales tax affidavit yet? It should be good from the date they issue it for six months

I have not received the paperwork. The vehicle insurance company volunteered the information that when they went through my file last week, they realized their mistake in that they never sent the paperwork. The lady said she would mail it out immediately. I hope so!

It should be dated for the day they signed and notorized it...and will be good for six months from then...In your case it was good they forgot!
