On military life insurance policies. It says a person is supposed to subit a CERTIFIED copy of the death certificate, and certain information about the deceased.. such as military discharge papers etc. His social security number etc. Well If the beneficiary doesnt have that information, The government will help them get that info.
So as in my case. The"friends" transferred my fathers policy to themselves, wrote themselves in on the form, and the government helped them get the information they needed on my deceased father. I wasnt about to give it to them. how do you like that?

More importantly how do YOU like that? If it were me I'd have already been to an attorney.

How DID you 'friends' get information (IE: Death, Certificate, etc.) to give to the 'proper channels'? How did they get the form?...which, by the way, can't be given without proof of COPIES of things? You have to proof to the government who you are., to get that info on a VET. I don't know...I think there is alot 'missing' in the OP's story...alot of facts.

....i want to add, too, that the Death Certificate has to be an ORIGINAL, NOT a copy.

Hi,

Some how I have this feeling that by "friends" you're pointing at your father's friends or ex-colleagues. Am I right? Otherwise, how'd they obtain such information?

Well If the beneficiary doesnt have that information, The government will help them get that info.

Are you the beneficiary? Which govt. department are you referring to?

If someone is the Beneficiary of a Military Life Insurance policy, the individual (Beneficiary) should already HAVE this information. The Military isn't going to help someone get someone ELSE'S information, unless they are authorized to have it.

I have no idea How they got the form, I have no idea where any of the information is on the policy.... I have no idea. It was all done in secret when I left for groceries. dad was mental. No they really werent colleages. Just a couple of aquaintences.
Veterans Affairs. And it is supposed to be certified, I am the only one that has his original death certificate, i am the only one that has his military papers, and probably they dont even have his ss#. But i do. I have them locked up. Friends do not have the right to have a original death certificate in my state. They got a copy from the town office *without* the cause of death. They sent incomplete info to the VA, and the Va under law will help them get the information they need. to steal.Anyway
I've posted before. But The husband, Of the beneficiary, even admitted that HE wrote his wife's name in on the form. He wrote HIS wife in on my fathers form!
But why i posted this is ..... This shows how much of a MESS up that administration is.
And just by accident i got a copy of the benficiary change from the Va, and we were looking at the handwriting and noticed things looking wrong.
So all kinds of smelly business can go on, and the VA doesnt care. TRUELY. Its unreal. But so typical for a government agency dont you think? They will even assist.
Folks dont know what goes on within these agencies until you happen to get involved with one. People think of course things are done by the book. Nope.
They want those insurance policies off their desks, thats all. Forms in, pay out. get rid of it.

I'm REALLY sorry that the VA did this. They should have known better. I'm in the Military, myself. I know the VA wouldn't have given information to any 'joe' off the street, unless information (about the deceased) was given to them, FOR the VA to help them gather info. I'm not saying YOU gave them info,...I'm jsy saying that the VA just doesn't work like that. Actually.............here's a little 'tidbit' for you. I've been divorced for 2 years now. My EX (yep..he can be sneaky!!) tried to call my unit, the VA, etc., to get information on me. he even told them he was STILL my husband and he couldn't remember my SS#. THEY told him unless my EX was on ANY of my paperowrk, they (the VA) couldn't give info out to him. The VA actually called ME and told me what had happened. Maybe you can compare the handwriting, etc..as you were saying, to see if it is legit.
