My truck was parked and got backed into

by kramer72456 » Thu Aug 13, 2009 11:43 pm

My truck was hit and the other insurance company is sending an adjuster, i own the truck, no lien holders, i just want the check. Do i tell the adjuster that i just want a check sent to me directly? Will i get a lower settlement if i do? I also live in arkansas if that makes any difference.

Sorry, the other company has accepted the responsibility of repairing the truck.

They will give you an estimate of your damages that they determine. If you don't want to get your own bid (sounds like you want the money and will not repair the damages - which is okay) you can accept their amount and they will issue you a check in exchange for a property damage release.

Will your settlement be less....maybe. What if there is hidden damage or they estimate incorrectly? If you don't want to hassle getting a bid from a garage, take what they offer and move on. It is none of their business if you have the damage repaired.

Oh yea.....I would just have the vehicle repaired ( having the OTHER insurance comapny pay for it, I mean). Why not? You don't have to pay anything.....free repair!!

Well the damage isnt that bad, i mean i can drive it safely, its just that i have five kids and school is fixing to start , and i would rather buy school clothes and things, i can always fix it later or not, probably not.

Oh..I see where you're coming from. You say the vehicle is driveable?..but, is it SAFE to drive? I'm asking because, the repairs may not LOOK bad, but, there may be MORE damage than what it looks like. I was recently in an accident. I din't think my repairs were THAT bad....someone rear-ended me and bent my back bumper down and bent the hitch on the back of my Jeep. When I ahd the Insurance adjuster look at it, I did a WHOLE lot more damamge then it seemed. I bent the frame, bent brackets, etc. As Isaid, it MAY be driveable,..but, is it SAFE to drive? You never know. I'm just thinking of your kids.

I took it to 4 mechanics and they all concur that it is body damage only, no frame warpage or anything, it was struck as a lady back out of the driveway accross the road, very, very, very, low speed impact, just enough to crease the bed a bit. but thank you for the thoughts.

the 4 estimates i got were between 2000 and 2600, should i take any less than that, and what do i do if they try to low ball me? Oh and the truck is my work truck, the kids ride in my car.

Their estimate should come within the range you got. If you want, you can supply them one of the estimates you obtained if their estimate is lower. They do not need to know that you are not going to repair the vehicle. They will figure it out since you won't ask for a rental, but it really doesn't matter if they do know.

Oh, good, KRAMER....glad it wasn't frame damage. Well,...you DO have the right to ask for a check in your name...I would think, anyway. So..the vehicle is safe enough to drive (according to the adjuster..)? Good. A bit of a thought of my own: I know your concerns about getting school supplies for your kids. I have a wonderful 16 year old who can't wait to go school shopping!! Would ya believe it...he's EXCITED about going back to school!! Seeing all of his friends again, etc.

You said you have five kids. Don't you think it's reason enough to get things fixed first? Plasticmind
