Well, about 3 weeks ago I was involved in an accident in which I was not at fault for and my insurance has told me this. Well my motorcycle was a total loss, it would have cost about $25,000 to repair the bike which is way more then the bike is worth. I paid about $18,700 for the bike after taxes and extended warranty and all that jazz. Well they said they were going to give me $12,387.88, to me that seems like a very low amount.
I have been doing some research and I have found comparable bikes that are selling about $3,000 more then what they want to offer me. Also they are trying to tag me with the $1,000 deductible even though I have a police report stating that I was not at fault. When this all started I had asked my claims agent if I would be responsible for the deductible and she said no. Well they are still trying to make me pay that $1,000.
Also the driver who hit me and ran the bike over has no insurance and has not been detained by the police. No charges have been pressed nothing has been done about.
My question is what should I do right now about getting more for my accident. This makes no sense to me since I was hit by a driver, I was not at fault, I had no responsibility for the accident yet I am losing all this money, I am losing my bike, I have no way of getting around town with no car.
Isn't the definition of insurance;
Insurance is defined as the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for a premium, and can be thought of as a guaranteed and known small loss to prevent a large, possibly devastating loss.
To me this seems like I am losing a significant amount of money, as well as time. Any help on this subject would be of great appreciation.

This was me btw, I also failed to mention that the other driver, I am almost 100% positive does not have any type of insurance. I did get a perfectly clear picture of his license plate and have given it to the police. I just called my insurance company about this, because I was curious. I asked them if they had launched any kind of investigation into the driver of the vehicle and the owner, if different.
I have tried to find this driver by license plate on my own but have had no luck. I tried using those internet reverse license plate look up but those are all full of crap. CA also is a very strict state on reverse license plate look ups. Any and all information and suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Take the information on the higher prices to your insurance company and tell them that you think they are incorrect in thier valuation of your bike. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
As for your deductible, you are responsible for paying it per your policy's provisions. I am sure that your agent most likely stated that you would not be out your deductible since it is normally easily recovered from the at fault party when they have insurance. Now since the other guy does not have insurance, you still must pay your deductible and then hope that your insurance company can recover some or all of it.
As for tracking this guy down.....follow up with the police and stay on them.
