My co-worker stated that if we were married and he had health insurance coverage and I had seperate health insurance covered (different employers), that the birthday rule would apply even to spouses.....not just the kids...I never heard of this, but he insisted that the birthday rule not only applies to children, but to spouses who have their own single (EE only) coverage....Please explain. Thank you

See, this is a rule which actually helps you to know the primary and the secondary plans. I've never heard of such rule being applicable beyond children as 'dependents'. If you're not married it would be applicable to you if you're the custodial parent.
